Happy Birthday to Charles Addams (January 7, 1912 – September 29, 1988), the brilliant man behind my beloved Addams Family!
In this wonderful tribute painting (left) by Pete Von Sholly, Charles Addams looks down benevolently upon his creations after having been called forth during a seance.
You made the world a little less pastel, dear Mr Addams! ;)
And not all wives are Donna Reid! I loved watching after school and wished to be like
ReplyDeleteCarol Lindley! Perfect for the times as they to were a changing! xoDebi
The sixties TV show was timelessly wonderful, Debi! I still love watching it and now my son does too. :)
DeleteOh cool, I never knew this! Thanks for posting
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Sylvie! :)
DeleteI adore Morticia Addams!! I often find that I model myself after her because she's so swanky and proper. I'm really happy that Charles Addams made cartoons more interesting, I simply can't imagine a world without dark humor... It would just be non stop Family Circus or Marmaduke... *shudders*
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I love about Morticia, particularly Caroline Jones' Morticia, is that she manages to be seductive, and even risqué, whilst always maintaining an air of elegance and dignity. She's perfection! ^_^
DeleteMy dad had a couple of the paperback collections of Charles Addams' cartoons (he's since given them to me) and I couldn't get enough of them as a kid. They definitely shaped my sense of humour!
Happy Birthday to Mr Addams indeed! Lovely post Emma ♥ Like yourself I first discovered this wonderful family as a child and life was never the same afterwards! haha! Charles must have had the most amazing sense of humour and view of life... ~Siobhan xo
ReplyDeleteHe didn't have any children of his own, but I'm sure a lot of kids like you and I were wonderfully influenced by his delightful wickedness when we were growing up, Siobhan! :D ♥
Delete5:00am here ...we will post on this later ... Thank you dear Lady Emma....
ReplyDeleteDifficult keeping up with things.....
My pleasure, Dr. Theda! I'll be by to visit your blog later! :)
DeleteI adore that tribute painting, Emma! Raising a glass in dear Mr Addams' honour tonight ♥
ReplyDeleteYes, that painting is wonderful, isn't it?!! So poignant! I love the idea of Charles Addams beaming down at his beloved characters, who continue to live on after he has gone! I raised a glass too, Bec! ♥
DeleteIt's nifty seeing a modeller for Addams' iconic characters!
ReplyDeleteI think the model is actually his first wife, Barbara Jean Day. Apparently all his wives were Morticia-esque. He definitely had a *type*! ;D
DeleteOne can only adore the Addams Family.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree with you more, Variations On Light! :D
DeleteI never saw much of Mr. Addams' cartoons until I started following your blog so I thank you for introducing me.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Lady M! No doubt I was thoroughly warped by Mr Addams' cartoons as a kid... And I wouldn't have it any other way! ;D
DeleteI love the Addams family too. Gomez and Morticia rock.
ReplyDeleteYes!! Morticia and Gomez definitely rock, Debra She Who Seeks! Best couple ever!! :D
DeleteSO cool... thanks for the pics! :-)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't possibly let Charles Addams' birthday pass without a bit of a bloggy mention, Lucretia! I'm re-watching the sixties series of 'The Addams Family' at the moment, so I'm in Addams heaven right now! :D
DeleteHappy Birthday Charles!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete^_^
DeleteGreat post! I love The Addams Family ;o) I feel like snapping my fingers ;o) LOL! Big Hugs ;o)
ReplyDeleteI've got 'The Addams Family' TV theme tune as my ringtone, Stacy! Yes. I'm that much of an Addams tragic! ;D
DeleteI love that pleased look on his face (on the painting). Looking at our characters is very similar to looking at our children. When we see them happy and loved, we are delighted. I hope his watching and grinning a lot.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to him!
Lovely painting! I absolutely adore Carolyne Jones Morticia and I have two large hard covers of Chas Addams drawings and cartoons.
ReplyDeleteI'm not being glib when I say this, the Addams family are the happiest couple on the telly. They desire and respect each other and they never raise their voices or snap (except their fingers...)
ReplyDeleteNow I have the theme song stuck in my head ...... snap, snap!

ReplyDeleteOh how I miss the Addams family! I believe I'm going to watch it now! <3
