For the 2014 Vampire's Day Soiree, our delightful hostess, Holly B. Strange of
Holly's Horrorland blog, promoted the blood-soaked affair with a vampire illustration by Spanish artist,
Meritxel Ribas Puigmal. I know that many of us who participated in the Soiree were quite besotted by that illustration, and as I had been unfamiliar with the artist, I made a point of tracking down her website.

Meritxel Ribas Puigmal's entire portfolio of work is absolutely beautiful, but my favourite illustrations are from her
Vampiros collection, which I have shared here.

These illustrations are from the book,
Vampiros, which is in Spanish, but I gather it is an anthology of famous vampire literature. I wish there was an English edition, but regardless, I'm seriously coveting
Vampiros, and have added it to my ever-burgeoning Amazon Wish List.
Beautiful work, I love her style a lot. ^^
ReplyDeleteYes, I love her style too, Lynoire! She works on black scratchboard and I love how brilliant the reds are against the dark backgrounds. :)
Deletelove the coffin
ReplyDelete...:)...
blessings
Me too, Sacred Keep! All the tiny, red flowers and the candles... it's got a dark, fairy tale quality.
DeleteI love the first, second and fifth ones. the others scare me, the eyes look like they are looking at me through the screen, the kind of thing that would have utterly terrified me as a kid. Still does scare me a bit. I guess there are some downsides to never growing up! :P
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, Laura. You get quite a different feel from each illustration. The third picture is probably the most unsettling to me. I get a real sense of frenzied bloodlust from that one.
DeleteLOVE! I can see why you wanted to find out more about this wonderful artist after the Vampire's Day Soiree - the illustration Holly chose is beautiful, and perfect for the event! Thank you for introducing me to Meritxel Ribas Puigmal, I love these Vampiros illustrations - definitely adding the book to my wish list too!
ReplyDeleteMy Amazon Wish List has become this siren song luring me towards the rocks of financial ruin, Bec! Haha. I wish 'Vampiros' was available in English because I'd love to read all the stories, but I'd definitely get it just for the gorgeous illustrations. They're so lush and rich. The curtains and bed linen in the bottom right picture are swoon-worthy! :)
DeleteI did love the Vampire's Day Soiree banner, this ladies illustrations are simply gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely want to own the book for the artwork alone...I'd forgotten about my Amazon wish-list. I must update it soon :)
I'd love it if the text was in English, but I'd get the book for the illustrations alone too, Yvonne!
DeleteMy Amazon Wish List is a wicked temptress coaxing me to part with my money! Haha.
Love her style! Absolutely stunning! Just checked out that site and I'm in love. I want the whole Frankenstein set framed up on my walls. Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree, the Frankenstein illustrations are fabulous, Jessie! :)
DeleteLike you I am smitten with this artist and love the poster for the soirée . Admire it each time I blog...it's a keeper! xoDebi
ReplyDeleteYes, the soiree illustration really set a decadent, old-school-vampiric tone for the the hop, which was perfect, Debi! I'm so glad Holly chose it! :)
DeleteYou pop up beautifully on Bloglovin! Plus I can find everyone easy for me!
DeletexoDebi
Thanks, Debi! Signing up to Bloglovin is on my *To Do* list for this weekend! :D
DeleteI really did enjoy the vampire graphic Miss Holly used for Vampire's Day Soiree. After browsing through Meritxel Ribas Puigmal's website, I can say that I enjoyed most of her work. Thanks for bringing this artist to our attention.
ReplyDeleteYes, obviously being a freelance illustrator, her subject matter varies quite a lot, Nightwind, but she does seem to do a fair bit of work with a darker quality. I think the red tones on the black scratchboards work so well for creating a decadent, vampiric mood.
DeleteI haven't heard of this artist before now, but the illustrations are beautiful. Quite different to what you usually see with vampire imagery. The two at the top are my favourites, especially the one on the right.mi can picture that framed, hanging in my workspace for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteAli
I think the illustration at top right would look amazing in a huge frame, Ali! When she's taken out of the vampire context, she is just beautiful and enigmatic with all sorts of potential back stories to be imagined.
DeleteJust beautiful. The last one is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI'm completely besotted with the curtain and bed covers in the last illustration, Vanessa! They're so beautiful!
DeleteWow, thanks for letting me know about this artist's existence ;) I just love this kind of art :)
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Salieria! :) I'm glad Holly picked this artist for the Vampire's Day Soiree so that I was able to discover her too!
DeleteI looked up the artist as soon as I saw the poster for the party - and yes, I am truly besotted.
ReplyDeleteBtw: How have you been with the move and everything lately?
Yes, the Vampire's Day Soiree illustration was so awesomely vampiric.. and soiree-ish! Haha. It just set the mood perfectly! Talking about setting the mood perfectly... your Vampire's Day Soiree post was one of my favourites. I stole a couple of your pics for my personal inspiration file because your vampy table setting was so gorgeous! :)
DeleteThe move is still in a state of stasis. I'm basically waiting for a sign from the Universe at this point. :) Health-wise, I'm feeling a lot better, thankfully.
Stunning art! Wow!! I wish the book came in English too!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are well ;o) Big Hugs ;o)
Yes, it's such a shame that there's not an English edition, Magic Love Crow! Between the art, and the selection of beloved stories by authors like Poe, I'm sure it would be quite popular!
DeleteThank you, I'm doing a lot better! xo
I just adding Vampiros to my wish list. This is a book that would keep on giving. Love her art!
ReplyDeleteOh, it just occurred to me that you would be able to read the Spanish edition, Magaly! You lucky thing!!
DeleteMuahahahaha! Or Muajajajajaja! :-D
DeleteHA!
DeleteSome reason the illustrations remind me of Tim Burton Characters. Probably the thin faces... Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou're quite right, Mark! The huge Burton eyes are missing, but his animated characters do always have those thin faces with extreme pointed chins! I can't believe I missed that. I just lost some serious Burton points there! Haha.
DeleteFantastic illustrations!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I just adore them, Julie! :)
DeleteI wondered where you'd got the original illustration. What gorgeous images, full of wickedly exotic women. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure and thank you, Rhissanna! :) After Holly picked out that gorgeous illustration for the Vampire's Day Soiree, I just had to find out who the artist was!
DeleteI adore the illustrations! (Her name is completely unpronounceable though!) Have a great weekend, Emma! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha. You're making me think of a book I once read on writing, Lexa. The author said he learnt the hard way about not giving characters unusual names. He had numerous complaints from readers who said they were distracted away from the plot in one of his books, by trying to pronounce his heroine's name in their heads. ;)
DeleteWhat a stylish blog you have! I'm happy to be your latest follower!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Debra She Who Seeks! :) I kept seeing you popping up on blogs I visit, so I'm very happy to finally *meet* you! :D
DeleteBeautiful illustrations indeed!! I have seen her work on tumblr many times, love her work and among my favourites is the Vampiros and the Pincel de Zorro collection. Thank you for sharing my dear <3
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Magda! :) I think all her work is just stunning but I particularly love the black and white illustrations with red details. My favourite colours! ^_^
DeleteSo beautiful and dark!!!! Gorgeous! And thank you so, so much for visiting me at my Mad Tea Party and your lovely comments!!! I really do appreciate it so much! You know, several people yesterday told me I should write a book and you know, I have been planning on it, but hearing so many people's great reactions just encourages me all the more!!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great rest of your day!
Betty
I loved your Mad Tea Party artwork, Betty! Utterly magical! And most definitely book-worthy!! :)
DeleteThanks a lot, Emma; now I've had to add that to my wish list as well, I can waive away the expense, telling myself it'll be a chance to practice my long-ago high school Spanish, plus research for a writing project I've shelved, but...nah, actually, I'll go with both of those! :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha. Excellent rationalizing, Mina! I have endless justifications up my sleeve for purchasing just one more book! ;D
DeleteWhere have you gone off to, Emma?
ReplyDeleteI miss your posts :)
Aww... thank you, Ms Misantropia! I really appreciate you checking up on me! ❤ I've been unwell and my poor bloggy has been sorely neglected. Hoping to post something new very soon! xo
DeleteI'm sorry to hear that and I wish you a speedy recovery!
