May Monster Madness: Day 3

David in The Lost Boys

For Day 3 of May Monster Madness, I continue with my theme of featuring a "monster" selected from a favourite film. Back in the good old days, before teen vampires sparkled, there was David (Kiefer Sutherland) from The Lost Boys. He was the leader of a vampire gang that prowled the boardwalk of the Santa Carla amusement park looking for victims to drain and new undead recruits.

    1. Hi Laury,

'The Lost Boys' blended humour, horror, and '80s style so well. I think it holds a special place in the hearts of many horror fans.

    1. Hi Natasha,

My father let me watch old Hammer Horror movies with him when I was little, so that's when my love of vampires began, however, while the female Hammer vamps were always very glam, the male Hammer vamps weren't usually hotties. David was probably the first young and sexy male vampire that I had ever encountered on screen.

    1. Hi Ben,

Yes, it has both charm and horror, which is hard to balance, and the soundtrack is awesome. I listen to it every now and then too.

Thank you for the lovely compliment!

  8. One of my fave films EVA! And yes, David rocked that boardwalk way better than (love interest, apparent sexy new-comer to town) Jason. I once thought I'd name my daughter Star (fortunately I never had a daughter :D )

  9. Such a great movie! Sexy vampires (in an 80's sort-of way), doomed love and even comic relief (who doesn't love the Coreys?) Great choice!

"Sexy vampires (in an 80's sort-of way)."

I know what you mean. Somehow, David managed to make a mullet sexy! ;) And I completely agree, who doesn't love the Coreys?!

  10. Man, I watched Lost Boys so many times I could quote every line. I think what drew me in is that it was the first vampire movie I saw that had young cool vamps instead of the old reclusive man type. I was hooked ~ still am ~ vampires are just some kinda sexy evil!

    1. Hi Ali,

It's interesting because even though 'The Lost Boys' is such an '80s movie, my son loves it as much as I do, so it obviously has multigenerational appeal!
