Happy Birthday, John Astin!

John Astin was born on March 30, 1930, in Baltimore, Maryland. Over his career he has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, and also  performed in the one-man play, Edgar Allan Poe: Once Upon a Midnight, but for me, he will forever be Gomez Addams from The Addams Family television series (1964-1966).

With his wild eyes, his wickedly gleeful grin, and his irrepressible exuberance, John Astin's, Gomez, was the perfect foil for the elegant restraint of his beautiful wife, Morticia, played by Carolyn Jones.

A very Happy Birthday to you, Mr Astin!

  2. One of my favorite TV programs as a child. Never liked the attempted movie remakes though. Think the original characters were casted so well there was just no way to re-create them.

    1. Hi Mark,

Still one of my favourite TV programs! I couldn't tell you how many times I've watched my DVDs of the show. I enjoyed the 1991 and 1993 movies, but the TV show has an extra special place in my heart.

    1. Hi Maynard,

Yes, happily, John Astin is still with us! He's 83. I think he and Felix Silla (Cousin Itt) are the only adult cast members left though. Both Carolyn Jones and Ted Cassidy died way too young, of course.

    1. Hi Nightwind,

Yes, I hadn't realized that John Astin was born in the same city Poe died. Another thing I just discovered was that his full name is John Allen Astin!
