Occasionally, we saw her in a negligee (black, of course), which served to further inflame the passions of her always enamoured and ever-attentive husband, Gomez. Also, in one episode, Morticia posed as a maid (this too proved irresistible to her husband) in a ruse intended to trick Lurch's mother into believing that Lurch was the master of the house, and that she and Gomez were the servants. She also had a special outfit for a brief foray into sculpting.
Mostly however, Morticia just accessorized with flair. She had sunglasses for evenings of moonbathing, wore lace head scarves when out visiting, and naturally, she always protected her delightfully deathly pallor with a black parasol.
What a beautiful post! Morticia Addams <3
ReplyDeleteHi Magda,

ReplyDeleteHi Jessica,
DeleteI couldn't agree more! She was the epitome of loveliness!
Beautiful woman, wonderful actress. A tragedy that she died so young.
ReplyDeleteHi Maynard,
DeleteYes, so sad! Carolyn Jones showed such dignity and grace when she became ill. I hope she realized how beloved she was!
Faboulous! She is completely beautiful! I always loooved her hair!
ReplyDeleteHi Zena,

ReplyDelete❤ Goth Bless Morticia ~ Forever Beautiful ❤
Hi Goth Clothes,
DeleteThank you!!
"❤ Goth Bless Morticia ~ Forever Beautiful ❤" Well said!!! :)
The black and white does contribute to the creepiness, but I guess there is no going back to that more innocent horror movie by-gone era of the 30s-60s.
ReplyDeleteHi Matt,
DeleteMany of the television shows from the sixties are really special and of their time, and you're right, the feeling can't be recreated in our jaded, modern world. I thought they did a good job with 'The Addams Family' movies from the nineties, but the sixties TV show will always hold a special place in my heart. :)
I agree, however I favour Anjelica Huston's wardrobe from the film version's of the tv series, a tad more variety. And I think Anjelica played her with a little more mystery. Can't go wrong with Carolyn Jones though!
ReplyDeleteHi Cherry Pie Suicide,
DeleteOh, I thought Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia did a fabulous job of playing Morticia and Gomez in the movies, but Carolyn Jones and John Astin will always be my favourites! 'The Addams Family' TV show is like comfort food for me. It makes me happy! :)
Oh, I thought Carolyn Jones was the epitome of Gothic elegance and sophistication, and I *envied* her relationship with Gomez. ::sighs::
ReplyDeleteSome Dark Romantic
Hi Mina Lobo,
DeleteOh, I completely agree! Carolyn Jones absolutely was "the epitome of Gothic elegance and sophistication", and Morticia and Gomez truly had the most ideal screen marriage ever!
I remember when I was a lot younger asking my mother for a dress just like hers... Unfortunately she said no, but then again she had to get used to my nearly all black wardrobe as well!
ReplyDeleteHi Laury,
DeleteMy mother was all set to make me a Morticia dress for a school costume ball when I was about 8. We were in the middle of a house move at the time, so even though she had bought all the black fabric, she was so busy that she never got around to making the dress for me. I'm still not over it! Haha.
Mothers... ;)
ReplyDeleteShe did appreciate the tv series though, we used to watch it together after dinner every day.
By the way, I love how you take the time to reply to your comments!
Aw... thank you, Laury! I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to visit and comment, and it's my absolute pleasure to respond to those comments! :)
DeleteMy husband and son watch 'The Addams Family' DVDs with me. My son loves the show, so I feel like I have passed on the torch! I hope he fondly remembers watching the show with me, the way you remember watching the show with your mother.
The "tentacled hemline" Nicely put! It always looked as if her dress could walk away, even with her in it. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Justine,
DeleteHaha. The tentacled hemline is one of my favourite parts of the dress. I'm so glad the TV series stayed true to Charles Addams' original drawings of the Morticia dress. I really do like Anjelica Huston's, Morticia, and loved the gorgeous gothy dresses she wore, but I missed the tentacles. :)
I liked the Morticia Addams looks as well. I wanted to go as her for several Halloweens when I was little. Actually, I wouldn't mind dressing as her this Halloween.
ReplyDeleteHi Adsila,
DeleteOoooh... I'd love to see your interpretation of Morticia. Too much Morticia is never enough for me! Maybe for Justine's virtual Halloween party?!! :)
I loved Angelica Huston's Morticia too!
ReplyDeleteAli
Hi Ali,
DeleteYes, I did too! Carolyn Jones is my special favourite though. I think I'll give Anjelica Huston her own Delightfully Dark Style as well now. :)
I have to whole heartedly agree with you. Carolyn Jones Morticia has been a style icon for me for years! Since I was a small child! Everytime someone in the street tries to insult me by calling me "Morticia" I'm filled with delight and politely say thank you.
ReplyDelete♥ Kate
Hi Kate,
DeleteIt's unbelievable to think anyone would be silly enough to use the word "Morticia" as an insult, but I'm very glad that you smile and take it for the compliment it truly is! And I'm also impressed that you take the high road and politely thank them. You've got the kind of Morticia-style dignity and grace that would make Carolyn Jones proud! ❤
Carolyn Jones is so beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree, Jenny! :)
DeleteI needed a good Picture of Morticia and Gomez.... I knew that your great blog would be the place to go.... (47 have already signed up for "May Monster Madness")
ReplyDeleteOh, I needed the pic to go with a post of the collectable "Barbie" versions... And Tippy Hedron (with attacking birds".... Have a great Sunday from us at the "Crypt"....
