A Blog Birthday and a Giveaway!

Welcome to the Party!

Today my little blog turns one! It's hard to believe that I've been blogging for a whole year now, and although it can be hard finding the time for all the work involved, it's definitely a labour of love.

Replica Props of the Handbook for the Recently Deceased, Business Card and Flyer

Some of you may remember me doing a post (here) about a replica prop of the Handbook for the Recently Deceased that I found in an Etsy shop. Well... knowing that my blog birthday was fast approaching, and since Beetlejuice is one of my favourite movies, I decided to buy the replica handbook (pictured above left) and offer it as a giveaway for my blog's special milestone. The replica handbook is meant as a display piece only and does not open. It has a distressed finish which simulates wear and years of collecting dust in the afterlife waiting room.

Plus, two runners-up will each receive both a replica Betelgeuse business card and replica Betelgeuse flyer (pictured above right).

Screenshots of the Movie Handbook

In Beetlejuice, the Handbook for the Recently Deceased is a manual to aid ghosts with their transition to the afterlife. The handbook pops up throughout the movie, first when Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam (Alec Baldwin) discover it in their home after the crash that causes their deaths, and then other copies can be seen in the afterlife waiting room. Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) gets her hands on the book for a while, and towards the end of the story, Otho swipes it in an attempt to perform a seance but unwittingly sets an exorcism in motion instead.

Screenshots of the Movie Business Cards and Flyer

The business cards are seen in a crumpled pile, on Betelgeuse's table, early in the film, and then later, after the Maitlands summon him, Betelgeuse gets some from his jacket and presses them into Adam's hands. The folded and torn flyer, which advertises Betelgeuse's services as a "bio-exorcist", drops out of Barbara and Adam's copy of the Handbook for the Recently Deceased.

So if you would like to enter the draw, simply leave a comment below telling me what virtual costume you are wearing to my virtual blog birthday party. I will assign a number to each comment in the order that they are left (one entry per person) and will pick the winners via a random number generator. Just make sure you leave me some way to contact you if you win.

The giveaway is international, however you must be a follower of the Little Gothic Horrors blog or a follower of the Little Gothic Horrors Facebook page to enter because this giveaway is my way of saying thank you to the people who have supported me. You have all weekend to enter and I will announce the winners early next week.

And just finally, thank you to my husband, Danny, for drawing the awesome monster party illustration at the top of the post.

Please note: This giveaway is now closed. You can see the winners here.

  1. I would wear the costume of with big hat and veil since it's the most memorial scene to me with her camera and the first time she notices something in the attic. And since I'm a photographer it makes sense to me.

  4. I would come wearing a flowing black witchy shirt, a lovely red velvet blouse with ruffles, stripped black and red tights, tightly laced pointed shoes, a long black tail coat with red trim, top hat with veil, and a delicately painted skull mask. A spider broach would adorn the top left of the coat, and I'd twirl my skull headed cane as I entered the room. I think that even Tim Burton himself would wanna dance with me. ;)

  6. Happy 1 year blogiversary! I know how you feel, I couldn't believe I had been blogging for a year when I hit the one year mark but now I've been going for 2 years which seems utter craziness to me!

Wow.. just.. wow.. I have a few Handbook's for the Recently Deceased on my favourites on Etsy so when I saw you were giving one away I was like.. *OMFG! DIES AND GOES TO THE AFTERLIFE WAITING ROOM* Such an awesome thing to giveaway!!!

I would come to your party dressed up as a crazy woman who's just managed to escape from an insane asylum complete with pale face, dark circles under my eyes from sleepless nights of rocking in the corner of my padded cell, matted unkemp hair with a few leaves and twigs in amongst it because I just fell from a 3rd floor window, some kind of cut scratched and bloodied legs because nobody can fall from a 3rd floor window unharmed, not even a crazy person and you can't be crazy without a straight jacket and maybe foaming at the mouth.

Your husbands picture is awesome! xxx

    1. Hi VainGlorySinner,

Thank you, and congratulations on nearly hitting the 2 year mark! I'm thrilled you're excited because I had actually already purchased the handbook, back in March, when I did the post on it. It's taken all my willpower to keep my mouth shut and not spill the beans about this blog birthday giveaway! Haha.

Your costume sounds awesome! I'm imagining the mad woman, in Dr Seward's asylum, from the 1979 film of 'Dracula', starring Frank Langella!

I'll tell Danny you enjoyed his picture! Thank you! :)

  16. Happy Blog Birthday! It's been so fun chatting with you for the past year. Danny's monster party drawing is so cute. I like that dancing mummy! At first, I thought you were sharing another spooky swatch of fabric with us. His drawing would make a good fabric pattern.

What generous prizes! I know exactly what to wear to your party: The very classy-goth outfit Delia wears to her dinner party in Beetlejuice! I'll even throw in some entertainment. :)

    1. Hi Justine,

Thank you! It's been wonderful chatting with you over the past year too! It's funny, I hadn't thought about it before, but now that you mention it, Danny's drawing does look like it could be a swatch of Halloween fabric. Especially after all the Ghastlies fabric I have posted on my blog. :) Hmm... maybe I should get him working on some textile designs. ;)

Like I mentioned to VainGlorySinner, it's been a hard job keeping this giveaway a secret because I was quite excited about it! Hopefully all the 'Beetlejuice' fans out there will be excited about it too!

I love your outfit, but I'm sure you already know that! ;) Very classy-goth indeed! And thank you for bringing along some entertainment. 'Day-O'! Perfect!! Haha.
