Tim Burton Exhibition Lands in Paris

I was fortunate enough to attend Tim Burton: The Exhibition when it came to Melbourne in 2010. As I understand it, Melbourne's ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) was only the second venue to host the exhibition after MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art) in New York. I stood in a queue with my husband, son, and a friend for 3 hours (necessitating  a couple of coffee runs, and an inevitable stampede to the bathrooms once we finally got inside) and was entertained along with the rest of the crowd by the sight of a headless horseman driving a coach, drawn by plumed horses, around the city streets. The long wait was definitely worth it, despite the fact that the Beetlejuice-style carousel exhibit broke down the day we were there, as we experienced a fabulous showcase of Tim Burton's work.

Of course, the flip side of the privilege of being one of the first cities to see the Tim Burton exhibition is that as it moves on around the globe, more memorabilia will naturally become available to go on show. The exhibition is currently taking place at La Cinematheque Francaise in Paris, and includes items from Tim Burton's upcoming Dark Shadows, including the red dress worn by Eva Green in the movie, and other costume accessories.

    1. Hi Goth Shoes,

Yeah, we really lucked out getting it in Melbourne! My cousin flew down from Sydney to see it, but I doubt I would have been able to travel for it if it had been in another state.

    1. Hi VainGlorySinner,

It's funny because I remember reading about the New York exhibition in a magazine and saying to a friend how cool it would be to have a holiday in New York while the Tim Burton show was on... then I discovered it was coming to Melbourne... I really couldn't believe it! I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Paris may be the last stop on the tour. I hope for your sake it's not though, and you find some way to see it!

    1. Hi Delmy,

Yes, the horseman was very cool! I wish I'd seen the dress too, but at that stage the memorabilia only went as far as the 'Alice in Wonderland' movie. It was an amazing experience though.

    1. Hi Lissa Lycan,

Awesome, indeed! :) I really wish they would take the exhibition to more cities because there are so many fans who would love to see it. It seems to be extremely popular, so I don't know what's stopping them. Fingers crossed!

    1. Hi Alexandriaweb,

At this stage, it looks like Paris is the last stop, but if it continues to make plenty of money they may keep touring. I hope so! :)

    1. Hi Justine,

Yes, I was so excited when I discovered we were going to get the exhibition in Melbourne. I've seen pictures of the New York one, and ours was set up quite differently. The gallery space was below ground and dark with just the artwork/exhibits individually lit, which helped create a cool spooky feel. The headless horseman was unique to Australia too, I think, and it was pretty impressive! And I totally agree, that dress is gorgeous! :)

    1. Hi Anne-K. Pache,

Oh, I'm sure you'll adore it, especially with your interest in costume design. I really loved the exhibition when I saw it in Melbourne, but they will have added a whole lot more goodies for you to see in Paris! And of course, there's Paris to enjoy as well! ;) Have a great time!!
